In some states it is already illegal to drive a car while engaged in a conversation on a cell phone.

As technology advances, lawmakers consider new laws (funny, that’s why they are lawmakers) to keep up with the use of that technology. As our attention is diverted from one thing to another, we are left with rules and fines to keep us in line.

Now, some lawmakers are looking at walking and talking. Can cell phone use while crossing the street cause a hazard?

WISN 12 News’ Kent Wainscott looks into it with his report at 10 p.m. Sunday on Channel 12.

I have seen more people driving, talking on their cell phones, who have not stopped for pedistrians in cross walks or where it is the peds right-of-way. Before thinking about walking and talking, we need to make it against the law to talk and drive!!

Saw your segment and I question how any technology being a cellphone or portable music device is the only contributor to distraction while walking. A question I have is if your talking with a friend or anyone while walking is that the same distraction as talking on the cellphone. I would say it would be equal. Would that be the next step if this ban takes place, to ban talking to your friend, while walking? I say everyone needs to pay attention a lot more.
